Five simple steps to your perfect raised bed.

You've built your raised bed, now it's time to get it set up and planted up. Before starting with the first layer, we recommend fitting an anti-vole mesh to separate it from the garden soil. This ensures that mice, rabbits and other pests are not able to dig through to your crop. Lining the walls of your raised bed with pond liner will extend its lifespan enormously. Now add Pro Natur Base Filler (Grundfüllung) evenly to the raised bed. Press the filler down firmly at regular intervals as you fill the bed. This ensures aeration of the next layer. The filler should come up to about 1/3 of the height of the raised bed.

The second step involves adding Pro Natur Raised Bed Compost (Hochbeet-Kompost) on top of the base filler. This is a high quality green waste compost containing garden fibre and specially processed structural wood fibre. The compost receives a good supply of oxygen from below and releases valuable nutrients to the layer above. Compost increases soil activity in your raised bed. The compost should be used to fill a further 30% of the total volume.

For the final layer, fill to the top with Pro Natur Raised Bed Topsoil (Hochbeeterde). This first class substrate is BIO Grünstempel certified, meets the highest standards and delivers strong, healthy, eco-friendly plant growth. After a year, the material in the bed will have compacted down by about 5–10 cm. Fill back to the top with Pro Natur Raised Bed Topsoil (Hochbeeterde)! After a further 5–6 years, remove all components of the filling and refill from scratch

(DE) Hochbeete neigen bedingt durch ihre Bauweise besonders in den Sommermonaten zu schneller Austrocknung. Der Fasermulch von Pro Natur als letzte Deckschicht im System hilft, die Feuchtigkeit länger im Beet zu speichern und unterstützt sie so aktiv. Der Fasermulch kann ebenfalls im klassischen Gemüsebeet eingesetzt werden und unterdrückt auch den Unkrautwuchs! Ein echter Mehrwert für Ihr Hochbeet!
